Simple Mathematics

In an insane asylum, three patients are up for release. The Doctor decides to give them an intelligence test. He turns to the first man and asks, "What is three times three?"

"274," he replies.

The Doctor asks the second man, "What is three times three?"

"Tuesday," replies the second man.

The Doctor turns to the third man, "Okay, your turn. What's three times three?"

"Nine," says the third man proudly.

"That's great!" says the doctor. "How did you arrive at that?"

"Simple," says the third man. "I subtracted 274 from Tuesday."

Babysitter of the Year?

Patricia Sato said the charges against her daughter are exaggerated. Charity Lynn Sato, 20, isn't capable of committing sexual acts with the 11-year-old boy she was babysitting, she said.

But she acknowledged her daughter isn't so sure.

``I'm not saying all of it didn't happen,'' Patricia Sato said. ``I asked Charity what happened, and she said, `Mommy, I was drunk. I don't remember.' ''

Charity Sato was arrested Saturday on charges that she forced the boy she was babysitting to use a sex toy on her twice during a 2 1/2-week period ending this past Tuesday.

Tobacco Companies Designed Cigarettes "To Addict Women"

A new analysis of tobacco industry documents provides evidence that cigarette companies intentionally modified their products to promote female smoking by emphasizing attributes they knew would appeal to women – stylishness and taste, as well as perceived health benefits. According to the authors, the study presents particularly troubling implications for world health, as tobacco companies seek to increase smoking among women in developing countries.

All for charity?

Sir Paul McCartney landed the headline spot at Live 8 after threatening not to perform at all.

The 62-year-old former Beatle told organisers he wanted to open Saturday's Hyde Park concert and close it or he would 'think seriously' about taking part.

They have bowed to his demand and Sir Paul will start the show with a version of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - reworded to honour the achievements of Bob Geldof - and round it off eight hours later with The Long and Winding Road.

In a compromise to clashing egos, he will share the stage for the opening number with Bono and U2. Both stars and the rest of the band will pay homage to the Sergeant Pepper legend by wearing the multicoloured militarystyle suits the Beatles wore on the 1967 album cover.

An eye for an eye?

An Iranian court has sentenced a man to have his eyes surgically removed for a crime he committed as a teenager 12 years ago. Amnesty International has condemned the sentence, reported in the Iranian daily Etemaad, but local human rights groups say these unusual punishments are hardly ever executed.

Etemaad says the accused, identified only as Vahid, was 16 when he threw a bottle of acid at another man during a fight in a vegetable market in 1993. The top opened - Vahid insists accidentally - and blinded his victim in both eyes.

France to host first nuclear fusion plant

Science's quest to find a cheap and inexhaustible way to meet global energy needs took a major step forward on Tuesday when a 30-nation consortium chose France to host the world's first nuclear fusion reactor.

After months of wrangling, France defeated a bid from Japan and signed a deal to site the 10 billion euro ($12.2 billion) experimental reactor in Cadarache, near Marseille.

The project will seek to turn seawater into fuel by mimicking the way the sun produces energy.

Its backers say it would be cleaner than existing nuclear reactors, but critics argue it could be at least 50 years before a commercially viable reactor is built, if at all.

Developed jointly by Motorola and NTT DoCoMo, the new handset is modeled on Motorola’s 3G A1000, which won high acclaim from consumers in Europe and Asia. Sultan of Brunei's Private Airplane

An Air Force Lt. General wrote...
I toured this aircraft as it was being "remodeled" in Waco.

Yes, the sinks are solid gold and one of them is Lalique crystal.

The Sultan bought the aircraft brand new for roughly $100M.

He had it flown to Waco from the Boeing factory and had the
interior completely removed. Then he had the folks at E-Systems
install $120M worth of improvements inside and outside.

I've gained entrance to nuclear weapons storage areas much
easier than gaining entrance to see this airplane. While there it
struck me - Maybe the rich really are different than the rest of us!!

Now you go and check out the Sultan of Brunei's Private Airplane.

Major hurricane likely to hit U.S. in '05

The Atlantic-Caribbean hurricane season opening June 1 promises to be "very active," marked by an above-average number of storms and with high odds of a major hit on the United States, a researcher said on Tuesday.

Colorado State University Professor William Gray and his research team expect 15 tropical storms, with eight of those growing to hurricane strength during the six-month storm season that runs to Nov. 30. They expect four storms to strengthen into intense hurricanes with sustained winds of 111 mph (178 kph) or greater, which can cause extensive damage.

Here is a riddle for the true intellectual. Try to come up with the answer on your own. The answer is at the end for those who are unable to think this one through!

Britain's military told to wear underpants when going to tailors

Britain's servicemen and woman have been ordered to remember to put underwear on when getting measured for new uniforms to avoid embarrassing their tailors.

A notice was issued to members of the army, navy and airforce in January after tailors complained about military personnel turning up to be fitted for their parade uniforms without wearing any underpants, a Ministry of Defence spokesman said Monday.

"Some of the contractors complained about the embarrassment that causes, not surprisingly, so instructions were issued to all three services just reminding personnel to dress appropriately and modestly," the spokesman told AFP.

Food for thought?

Insects may be packed with protein, but would you really want to eat them? People in northern Thailand do! Giant water bugs served with chilli and sticky rice are seen as a tasty treat, and dung beetles are thought to add flavour to curry.

In Ghana, people catch edible frogs which can be made into a soup or roasted.

Australia is full of wildlife that can bite you and now Aussie chefs are biting back! They’ve been dishing up crocodile, kangaroo and emu steaks. You can even order shark – called flake – in Australian chip shops.

People eat the weirdest things…

Strained US Army relaxes new officer requirements

The U.S. Army, facing recruiting woes and a reorganized force, will relax requirements for new officers, welcoming older candidates and allowing more tolerance of past minor crimes, officials said on Thursday.

Trying to stem the loss of current personnel, the Army also has made it more difficult to kick soldiers out of the military for alcohol or drug abuse, being overweight or "unsatisfactory performance," according to a recent memo.

"We are an Army at war and increasing levels of attrition of first-term enlisted soldiers in both the training base and units is a matter of great concern," the memo stated.

Live 8 logic attracts criticism

Blur frontman Damon Albarn has become the latest critic of next month's Live 8 concerts, saying they will perpetuate the idea of Africa as a "failing, ill" place.

He has followed several fellow musicians, teachers, black rights campaigners, police and an international aid charity in questioning the logic behind Bob Geldof's event.

Live 8 concerts will be staged in London, Edinburgh, Philadelphia, Paris and Rome in an effort to pressure G8 leaders to tackle debt in Africa.

Reviving memories of Geldof's 1985 Live Aid concerts, the new event will include performances by Coldplay, Madonna, U2, 50 Cent, Steve Wonder and Sir Paul McCartney.

Since then, they have performed in depleted formations, following an acrimonious break-up and legal wrangling.

Pakistani politician got paid £1,000 a month in UK benefits

A prominent Pakistani politician has been receiving British state benefits to which he was not entitled while living in a palatial home in Karachi.

As the governor of Sindh province in Pakistan, Dr Ishrat-Ul-Ebad Khan lives in a mansion in the state capital while being waited on by servants and chauffeured in Mercedes limousines.

Yet, while enjoying the perks of his position, Dr Khan was for 10 months the recipient of money from the benefits system, including income support worth about £1,000 a month.

Taxpayers also funded the £244-a-week rent on a house in north-west London, that Dr Khan keeps as a base for his family in Britain. His wife, Shaheena, also received benefits because she had been diagnosed with a "stress disorder". Extra money was added to allow for Dr Khan, who did not have a job, as her full-time career.

Pacman comes to life virtually

A human version of the classic arcade game Pacman, superimposing the virtual 3D game world on to city streets and buildings, is being developed by researchers at Singapore.

Players equipped with a wearable computer, headset and goggles can physically enter a real world game space by choosing to play the role of Pacman or one of the Ghosts.

A central computer system keeps track of all their movements with the aid of GPS receivers and a wireless local area network.

The Human Pacman was developed by Adrian David Cheok and his team at the Mixed Reality Lab, National University of Singapore.

Merging different technologies such as GPS, Bluetooth, virtual reality, wi-fi, infrared and sensing mechanisms, the augmented reality game allows gamers to play in a digitally-enhanced maze-like version of the real world.

It has been selected as one of the world's top 100 high-impact and visionary technologies and will showcased at the Wired NextFest 2005 in Chicago, US, which runs from June 24 to 26.

When he ran into the classroom several minutes late, he found three equations written on the blackboard. The first two went rather easily, but the third one seemed impossible. He worked frantically on it until — just ten minutes short of the deadline — he found a method that worked, and he finished the problems just as time was called.

The student turned in his test paper and left. That evening he received a phone call from his professor. "Do you realize what you did on the test today?" he shouted at the student.

N.J. College Student Auctions Body on EBay

A 21-year-old college business major living in this northern New Jersey community has proven a basic lesson of marketing: Sex sells. Courtney Van Dunk posted a bikini-clad picture of herself on eBay about two weeks ago, auctioning off space on her body for advertisers. The auction ended Thursday with a winning bid from a New Jersey wine retailer offering $11,300 for a month's worth of advertising. Van Dunk, though, says the offer has been retracted, but she's confident that she's made contacts with enough companies to still earn some cash.

When she finds a buyer, Van Dunk plans to place temporary tattoos on her abdomen while she's at the beach, or on other body parts when she's at the mall, sporting events, amusement parks and other public places. Her butt and chest are off limits.

Sex bracelets are the new rage in high schools across America. Blue means you’re willing to kiss, Red means you’ll go all the way, and Green means you’ll give oral. This system is great for guys not wanting to expend the effort into working their way into a girls pants, as they know ahead of time who is putting out. But what happens when someone gets the wrong idea?

Sarah Hill wore a Green bracelet to school for a week in hopes of finding a guy to share her first kiss with, but instead was picked up by a chubby bull dyke wanting to cut her grass.

The Hemp Conspiracy

The world is crazy...but that does not mean you have to join the insanity. Get together. Spread the news. Tell people, and that includes your children, the truth. Use hemp products. Eliminate the word 'marijuana.' Realize the history that created it. Make it politically incorrect to say or print the M-word. Fight against the propaganda (designed to favor the agenda of the super rich) and the bullshit. Hemp must be utilized in the future. We need a clean energy source to save our planet. INDUSTRIALIZE HEMP!

The liquor, tobacco and oil companies fund more than a million dollars a day to Partnership for a Drug-Free America and other similar agencies. We have all seen their commercials. Now, their motto is: ‘It's more dangerous than we thought.’ Lies from the powerful corporations, that began with Hearst, are still alive and well today.

The brainwashing continues. Now, the commercials say: If you buy a joint, you contribute to murders and gang wars. The latest anti-pot commercials say: If you buy a joint...you are promoting TERRORISM! The new enemy (terrorism) has paved the road to brainwash you any way THEY see fit.

There is only one enemy; the friendly people you pay your taxes to; the war-makers and nature destroyers. With your funding, they are killing the world right in front of your eyes. HALF A MILLION DEATHS EACH YEAR ARE CAUSED BY TOBACCO. HALF A MILLION DEATHS EACH YEAR ARE CAUSED BY ALCOHOL. NO ONE HAS EVER, EVER DIED FROM SMOKING POT!! In the entire history of the human race, not one death can be attributed to cannabis. Our society has outlawed grass but condones the use of the KILLERS: TOBACCO and ALCOHOL. Hemp should be declassified and placed in DRUG stores to relieve stress. Hardening and constriction of the arteries are bad; but hemp usage actually enlarges the arteries...which is a healthy condition. We have been so conditioned to think that: Smoking is harmful. That is NOT the case for passive pot.

Ingesting THC, hemp's active agent, has a positive effect; relieving asthma and glaucoma. A joint tends to alleviate the nausea caused by chemotherapy. You are able to eat on hemp. This is a healthy state of being.

Upskirt Subway Camera Causes Bomb Scare

A small digital camera apparently planted by an unidentified voyeur to shoot up passing skirts caused a brief bomb scare near a Manhattan subway station, police said Wednesday.

A pedestrian called police on Tuesday afternoon to report seeing a box with wires sticking out of it under a subway grate in a sidewalk on the Upper East Side. The block was closed off while the police bomb squad investigated.

The scare ended when officers discovered that the device was a digital camera.

Police said on Wednesday they believe someone positioned the camera to record so-called upskirt images of women and girls in dresses and skirts as they strolled over the grate.

Cigarette firms attempt to lure women

Tobacco companies have done elaborate research on women to figure out how to hook them on smoking - even toying with the idea of chocolate-flavoured cigarettes that would curb appetite, according to a new analysis.

Researchers at Harvard University's School of Public Health said they examined more than seven million documents - some dating back to 1969, others as recent as 2000 - for new details about the industry's efforts to lure more women smokers.
